Search Help

Search help

There are two different ways to search for clips on this site. Normally, searches made through the search box to the left will search the clip database for any of the words typed into the box. Quotes and wildcards can be used to further define the search, and the advanced search screen can be used to search for multiple search terms in a number of ways.

Quotes

You can search for an exact phrase by entering the phrase in quotes. For instance, "new york" .

Case

All searches, regardless of type, are case insensitive.

WildCards

In the search box, use '*' to stand for any combination of characters, and '?' for any single character (much like DOS wildcards). Note that '?' matches exactly one character, while '*' matches zero or more characters. So, for instance, eagle? would not match eagle, but eagle* would match eagle, eagles, and eaglerock.

Pluralization

The GotFootage search engine is language neutral, which is a nice way of saying that it doesn't know how to pluralize or unpluralize English words. So, make sure to add both singular and plural to your search, for instance instead of eagles try eagle*. Note that eagle? would not work in this case, since it would not match eagle.
